After you file the FAFSA and satisfy any requests for additional information, the Financial Aid office will send you one of the following e-mails:

Financial Aid Notification (FAN) – student notification that financial aid has been packaged
“No Need” Letter – notification that, based on FAFSA information, students are not eligible for grants.

Blue Ridge Community College does not automatically package student loans; you must request Federal Student Loans from the Financial Aid office.

Once you have been notified that you have either been packaged grants or is not eligible for grants, there is a three step process to apply for student loans:

  1. Complete the Student Loan Entrance Counseling for Undergraduate Students at
  2. Complete the Master Promissory Note for Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans at
  3. Complete the BRCC Federal Direct Stafford Loan Request Form, which can be downloaded at

BRCC will not process your loan request form until steps 1 and 2 above are complete, so it is important to complete these steps in this order. Additionally, BRCC will not package Federal loans for students whose FAFSA is incomplete or who are missing documents.
